iTMS to Exclusively Sell Beach Boys Album Pet Sounds For Four Weeks
Monday, July 24th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Cook
EMI is getting ready to release a new version of the Beach Boys' seminal album Pet Sounds that will be available exclusively through the iTunes Music Store for four weeks before becoming widely sold everywhere. According to Macworld UK, the iTMS version of the album will also include an exclusive digital booklet. It will go on sale Aug. 28.
The fortieth anniversary edition of Pet Sounds will feature 90 tracks spanning a wide variety of rare and previously unheard material, including different vocal mixes and various recording sessions. It will also be available as colored vinyl records and on CD, where a DVD of rare video footage will also be included.
The Beatles credited the album as a major influence on their late-60s music, including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. That band's catalog, of course, continues to remain unavailable through any online music store, including iTunes, although a representative for Apple Records admitted during the recent trademark dispute with Apple Computer that digital remasters were being prepared for online sales.
