iTunes 7.4.1 Update Disables Ringtone Renaming "Hack," Work Around Available

Apple Inc. released iTunes 7.4.1 over the weekend, an update that disabled the recently discovered "hack" of getting free iPhone ringtones from songs you already owned by simply renaming them. Ringtones made in and purchased through iTunes were unaffected. A work around for the renaming hack has already been found.
Engadget reported that ringtones already loaded onto your iPhone before the iTunes 7.4.1 update continued to be recognized as Ringtones, but that new renamed ringtones were blocked from being transferred to your iPhone. The site also noted a work around for the iTunes update it dubbed re-renaming that allows iPhone user to continue make their own ringtones by renaming the renamed song file.
The iTunes update is a 38.5 MB download, and is available from Software Update in Mac OS X, or through Apple Software Update or iTunes in Windows.
