iTunes 8 Has Changes to Combat PwnageTool

The iPhone Dev Team said on Thursday that iTunes 8 included changes that assist with combating the Pwnage Tool exploit. However, it’s not an ironclad fix, and the team expects to develop a workaround.
According to the team, Apple cannot completely prevent the Pwnage Took from working until they change their hardware. In the meantime, however, iTunes has been updated to detect a modified .ipsw file when it’s time to reload during the unlock/jailbreak procedure.
The team said that they’ve already worked out the details of a patch for the iPod touch and expect to have a full suite of patches over the next week.
Without the team’s patches, an attempt to reload a modified .ipsw file will result in an error (-48).
The Pwnage Tool allows a user to unlock/jailbreak an iPhone 2G or jailbreak an iPhone 3G or iPod touch.
