iTunes Controls British Music Market

The iTunes Music Store (iTMS) has the largest share of the digital music download market in the U.K., according to The Register. The iTMS lead is so large, in fact, that it dwarfs the combined sales of its top competitors.
By the end of September, the iTMS controlled 54 percent of the U.K. music download market, compared to Napster with ten percent, Wippit at eight percent, and MyCokeMusic at six percent. MSN rounds out the top five with only a five percent market share.
Other U.K. music services, like Virgin Digital, HMV, and Tesco, hold three percent or less of the market.
According to a report from xtn data, Peer to peer systems (P2P) still hold the biggest competition for Apple. Users that are unhappy with download services because of price, or ease of use, are more likely to turn to illegal P2P servers instead.
