id Planning iPhone Game
Monday, July 28th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
John Carmacks id Software is working on a game exclusively for the iPhone. The company is keeping details of its upcoming game secret, but did confirm that will will be graphically rich, according to Forbes.
"Im not announcing anything specifically, but it would be a graphical tour de force," Mr. Carmack said.
id Software is well known for its popular first-person shooter games like Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein. The game will be based on one of ids current properties, but the company isnt saying which one.
One of the features that has caught Mr. Carmacks interest is the iPhones under-the-hood horse power and the potential that brings to portable gaming platforms.
"The iPhone, as a device, is in the same generation power-wise as the PS2 or Xbox. The graphics are a little lower but the RAM is a lot higher," he said.
id Software isnt offering a release date for its iPhone-only game, but based on the companys track record, it will likely be worth the wait.
