iPhone Helps Grow Cell Phone Gaming

The audience for mobile gaming grew 17 percent in one year, fueled in large part by the increased adoption of such smartphones as the iPhone, according to a new report from comScore. The research firm looked at the time period between Nov. 2007 and Nov. 2008 and found that 14 percent of mobile game downloaders were using iPhones last Nov.

comScore also noted that 34 percent of those who downloaded mobile games last Nov. were doing so with smartphones. The previous Nov., not a single smartphone was among the top 10 devices used for downloading mobile games, according to the company. Now six of the top 10 are smartphones, with the iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry Curve replacing Motorola's RAZR and various low-end flip phones as the most popular devices.

In addition, the research firm said that 32.4 percent of all iPhone users reported downloading a game last Nov., compared with an average of 3.8 percent for all other mobile phone platforms.

This is good news of course but the only problem I had with the app store experience are those “picture n’ paragragh” reviews, they just don’t give you any idea of the gameplay. To address this I’ve created http://www.iphoneappdemo.com. On this site we post videos of the games in action, hopefully giving the potential buyer an idea of the gameplay before they spend their hard earned dollars.

Here is an excellent site with iPhone game reviews and video demos:

They can’t review every game (who could?) but they do cover the good ones and write good reviews.
