iTunes 8.2 Could Include Blu-ray Support
Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 at 7:03 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
iTunes 8.2, which was included in a recent iPhone 3.0 beta software release to developers, includes a mention of support for Blu-ray playback within iTunes, a feature otherwise missing from iTunes and the company's Mac product line.
Noted by 9to5Mac.com, the About credits in iTunes 8.2 include coverage of Blu-ray discs. When asked about Blu-ray as recently as October 14th, 2008, Mr. Jobs called licensing for Blu-ray a "bag of hurt," and said his company was letting the market continue to shake out.
Mac users have wanted Blu-ray drives in their Macs, but currently the only way to get it is through third party, external drives. This iTunes 8.2 issue, however, may not necessarily mean that Macs will be getting Blu-ray support, as the company could just be including it on iTunes for Windows.
Until the company makes an announcement or more definitive proof from developer releases makes its way into the public domain, we won't know.
