iTunes Store Goes DRM-free

Apple's iTunes Store completed the transition to all DRM-free music on Tuesday. The change over means that music purchased at the online media store will play on the iPod as well as any other AAC format-compatible player, and today also ushers in Apple's new variable pricing structure for songs.
Songs at the iTunes Store will now be available on a sliding pricing scale at US$0.69, $0.99, or $1.29 each. All tracks are now also encoded at 256kbps, or iTunes Plus, which should translate into better audio quality compared to the 128kbps most tracks had been encoded at since the music store first launched.
Apple is offering an upgrade option for customers that want iTunes Plus versions of songs they have already purchased. Songs in your library that are eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade will be listed in the Upgrade to iTunes Plus option, which is available in the Quick Links list at the iTunes Store.
