KT Scores iPhone in Korea
Monday, August 10th, 2009 at 1:19 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Korean cell service provider KT has confirmed that it has struck a deal to carry Apple's iPhone in the country. KT's confirmation, however, is a little slim on information because the company has yet to say when it will start selling the iPhone, or how much subscribers can expect to pay, according to Telecoms Korea.
Yeon-hak Kim, KT's CFO, commented "Apple iPhone will be in our smartphone line-up. [The] iPhone will help to expand the smartphone market and will contribute to increasing the ARPU," or average revenue per user.
KT may have competition in the iPhone market because Apple is also negotiating with SK Telecom, the largest cell carrier in the country. Like KT, SK Telecom isn't offering up any additional details.
Apple is also working its way into other markets in the region. In July, China Unicom announced that it had struck a preliminary iPhone deal with Apple, but didn't offer a time frame for an official agreement.
