MacOS iPhone Brings System 7 to the iPhone

The iPhone can do more than make phone calls and play music, and thanks to the efforts of the MacOS Project, now it can run Apple's venerable System 7, too. The project is still a work in progress, but the group has been able to get a working desktop and can even run classic applications such as MacDraw.

The group used code from the Qemu Project to get off the ground, and now are able to run MacPaint and the Calculator, along with MacDraw. In true retro Mac goodness, the "About This Macintosh" window even shows that Mac OS 7 is running on a Macintosh Plus.

Since this is a hack, don't expect to see Mac OS 7 available at the App Store, and the group still has some work to do -- especially since "shutting down" System 7 crashes your iPhone. MacOS iPhone isn't available for download yet, but the group hopes to be releasing their code soon.

Forget OS 9 and 7 (savvy as it was) I want ProDos because I miss Timeout UltraMacros.

I have very fond memories of Font/DA Mover, especially after Mac OS X came out since I needed it to extract fonts from suitcases. Never underestimate the power of retro technology.
