Maxis Hosts Malaysia iPhone Launch on March 20

Malaysian cell carrier Maxis has struck a deal with Apple to distribute the iPhone 3G in the country starting on March 20. The company is planning on hosting a series of invitation-only launch events on March 20 through March 22 at the KL Convention Centre.

Maxis will be offering the combination iPod and smartphone with four different service plans, including one with a free 8GB iPhone. SMS plans are extra with each package.

The iValue 1 monthly plan includes 333 voice minutes and a 500MB data limit for RM100, the iValue 2 plan offers 666 voice minutes and a 1GB data cap for RM155, the iValue 3 plan comes with 1,500 minutes and 2GB of data per month for RM250, and the iValue 4 plan includes 2,500 voice minutes along with a 3GB monthly wireless data cap for RM375.

Pricing on the 8GB iPhone 3G starts at RM680 with the iValue 3 plan, caps at RM1,510 on the iValue 1 plan, and is free with the iValue 4 plan. the 16GB iPhone is priced starting at RM260 on the iValue 4 plan and tops out at RM1,890 with the iValue 1 plan.

Invitations for the special iPhone 3G launch events are available through the Maxis iPhone Web site through March 17.
