Namco Hires Ex-Apple Exec to Oversee iPhone Game Development

Namco Networks on Monday said it has hired Jonathan Komrey, previously an iPod and iPhone games producer and designer at Apple, to head up its Apple Games division, where he's expected to oversee the development of new titles for iPhone and iPod touch.

Namco said that Mr. Komrey plans on taking "full advantage of the iPhone's capabilities," from its accelerometer and voice recognition technologies to such iPhone OS 3.0 features as Facebook Connect support and access to the gamer's iTunes library. The publisher continues to release titles based on its classic properties, including Galaga, Dig Dug, and Pac-Man, but it plans to develop new properties as well.

Mr. Komrey said in a press release: "While working at Apple, I was amazed by the renewed passion for gaming that seemed to grow by the day. The gaming community has never been broader, both in terms of the types of games being played and the audience. This is a great time to be developing games for Apple's devices."
