O2: Apple Releasing SMS Security Fix Saturday

U.K. iPhone dealer O2 claimed Apple is preparing to release a security update for the iPhone on Saturday that fixes a potential SMS-related security flaw, according to the BBC. The patch should prevent attackers from sending iPhone owners maliciously crafted SMS messages that could lead to unauthorized access and control over the handheld device.
The security flaw was discussed by Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner at the Black Hat Conference in Las Vegas this week. The potential exploit lets an attacker gain control over the combination iPod and smartphone by sending specially modified SMS messages with code that isn't visible to the recipient.
Once an attacker gains control over the iPhone, they can perform actions like forcing calls to toll numbers, or using the handheld in denial of service attacks on Web servers.
Apple's iPhone isn't the only device susceptible to the SMS attack. Windows Mobile and Google Android handhelds are open to the SMS attack as well.
Apple has not confirmed that the security fix will be released on Saturday.
