PopCap’s Word Game Bookworm Comes to App Store

PopCap on Monday released its popular word game Bookworm for iPhone and iPod touch. Selling for US$4.99 at the App Store, the game features nearly all of the 170,000-plus words in the Oxford English Dictionary, which players draw on as they build words from contiguous letter tiles on a grid. As in the game Scrabble, longer and more difficult words earn higher scores; unlike Scrabble, players gain access to gem tiles that offer bonuses.
The game uses the handhelds' built-in accelerometer to allow players to shake their devices to re-scramble the letters. There's also a new bonus bookshelf full of volumes with bonus words, statistics tracking, Classic and Action game modes, and unlimited levels. iPhone 2.2 software update is required.
