Real Racing Adds a Dozen New Cars, More

Firemint's popular game Real Racing has been updated with features, including a dozen exotic vehicles, support for up to six players in a Wi-Fi multiplayer session (increased from two), a new musical soundtrack, more content in Career mode, and the ability to select personal songs from a personal library while racing. That final feature requires iPhone OS 3.0.

Real Racing 1.10 also offers a new control method – touch-wheel-to-steer, manual accelerate, and manual brake – as well as increased smoothing of the horizon tilt feature and various improvements and bug fixes. In addition, players can choose the level of impact on them from collisions by computer-controlled cars and can get behind the wheel of Team Flight Control flying cars.

The full game includes 48 cars in four classes, 12 tracks, three divisions, online league play and leader boards, and a career mode with 76 events. Players can upload video replays to YouTube from within the game. Pricing is US$9.99 and iPhone OS 2.2 is required.

Car games are games played to pass the time on long car journeys, often started by parents to amuse restless children. Some such games are designed specifically to be played while traveling (e.g. the license plate game or the Alphabet Game), while others are games that can be played in a variety of settings including car journeys (e.g. twenty questions).
Car games (araba oyunlar?) generally require little or no equipment or playing space, making them ideal for playing on the move. Collections of games are available on the Web, in books and on iPhone applications.
