Samsung to Delay Android Entry Until Later This Year

Samsung is delaying its first Android phone until the second half of the year. The company had been expected to unveil the phone at next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, but UK newspaper The Guardian reported Thursday that the Samsung officials said it would be not released until later in the year.

Samsung will, however, be updating its Tocco touch-screen phone, a device that currently features a 2.8" screen, haptic feedback on the touchscreen, and a 5.0 megapixel camera. Samsung said it will be offering a slimmer version of the phone, which has heretofore been a big hit for the company in the UK.

As of this writing, HTC's G1 remains the only phone based on Google's Android platform that has been successfully brought to market, though several major handset manufacturers are working on their own models. Samsung was thought to be one of the next companies to release an Android phone.
