Star Defense Puts a Sci-Fi Twist on Tower Defense Games

Prolific iPhone publisher ngmoco has released Star Defense, a sci-fi tower defense game that was highlighted during the keynote that kicked off Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. Players protect a series of human outposts from invading S'rath aliens by choosing from five classes of towers, for a total of 15 different weapons that fire everything from hot plasma to electricity.
As players progress across seven unique planets, the S'rath aliens bring in new types of units, with new formations and armor, to thwart existing defenses and force the creation of new battle plans. Players can earn over 50 medals and commendations during the campaign, with three difficulty settings available for newcomers and strategy game masters.
Pricing is US$5.99 and iPhone software 2.2.1 is required.
