Taiwan Newspaper Names Two Companies “Likely” to Receive iPhone Nano Orders
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 at 2:20 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and United Microelectronics Corporation have been named as two companies "likely" to receive orders from Apple Inc. for chips for an iPhone nano. The news comes from Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News via the English-language newspaper DigiTimes.
The roundabout rumor reporting said that the chip orders might come in March for an expected June release of an iPhone nano, though Apple has not announced such a device.
DigiTimes is a Taiwanese-based newspaper that often publishes stories based on leaks from Taiwanese OEM manufacturers. Those reports have a hit and miss record for accuracy, but we should emphasize that this is little more than a second hand translation of a story coming from Economic Daily News.
Accordingly, take this report with at least one grain of salt.
