In-Depth Review

Tango Studio

The Tango Studio from XtremeMac is a compact iPod audio system that is quite handsome, delivers pretty good sound for its size, and includes several features you might not expect it this price point (SRP $79.95).

As you can see in the photos below, the system is sleek and elegant, with a subtle blue LED display for volume level, operating mode, or radio station. You can't really tell in the pictures but the display is behind the black grill cloth and is invisible when not illuminated.

The universal dock, which supports any iPod with a dock connector, retracts into the unit when not in use. The LED and retractable dock combined with the simple black grill cloth covering the front of the unit make it very handsome in my humble opinion.

It's not just another pretty face, either. In addition to being stylish and sounding good, other nice touches include a wireless remote, FM radio, and an auxillary input for devices other than iPods.

The Bottom Line

I've had occasion to try several iPod speaker systems in this price range and this is among the best for the reasons I've just mentioned. I've been using it in my kitchen for a few weeks and while I have occasionally wished for more volume and/or better bass response, in most situations it's been a fine sound system for my audio needs while cooking.

Just The Facts

Tango Studio from XtremeMac

Pros:Good looking, good sound, remote, universal dock.

Cons:Could be louder and/or offer better bass response.
