In-Depth Review

Wave (iPhone case)

Griffin Technology's Wave case for the iPhone sports a nice minimalist design that protects your iPhone without hiding its elegance and comes in a passel of translucent pastel-ish colors.

The Wave's most unique feature is the way the top and bottom pieces interlock via wavy-looking curves.

This namesake feature makes it quite easy to put the case on and take it off; just slide your iPhone into the bottom half and press the top half onto it until you hear it click, which tells you that the two pieces are mated securely. That's a good thing because although the case is relatively slim and adds very little bulk, it does add just enough bulk that you can't fit it into most iPod or iPhone docks. On the other hand, the case does allow access to all ports and controls without removing the phone from the case and while you can't slide the encased iPhone into a dock, you can plug in a dock connector charging/synching cable without removing the iPhone.

Wave cases are fabricated out of some kind of durable polycarbonate. So far it's resisted scratches and other signs of wear quite nicely and after several weeks mine still looks brand new.

The cases include a premium cleaning cloth and a static peel screen protector, neither of which did much for me. The cloth was OK but tiny (4.5-inches square) and it wasn't long before I had misplaced it. As for the screen protector, I couldn't seem to apply it without getting air bubbles under it. Furthermore, after a few days the screen protector was so scratched up that I discarded it. For what it's worth, the loss of the screen protector didn't really affect the functionality of the case much, but it would have been nice if it had worked better.

Note that it doesn't include a belt clip nor can one be affixed to it, so if you're a belt-clip fan the Wave isn't for you.

Finally, if you'd prefer to mix and match color combinations, there are two Wave 2-packs available -- blue/white and green/black -- for $34.99 (just ten dollars more than a single case).

The Bottom Line

The Wave iPhone case sports an interesting design in stylish colors and doesn't add a lot of bulk to your phone. If the styling or colors appeal to you and you don't need a belt clip, it's a pretty good case for the money.

Just The Facts

Pros:Doesn't add much bulk, easy to put on and take off, available in a variety of colors.

Cons:No belt clip, won't fit in most docks, screen protector marginal at best.
