Genius GHP-05 Live 3D Surround Premium Headphones
Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at 3:00 PM - by Nancy Gravley
I really like these headphones. For one thing, they are very comfortable. The adjustable piece that fits over the top of my head is nicely padded and the ear pieces, though large, are soft next to the ear. One of them holds two AAA batteries and both have enough electronics in them to create the stereophonic surround sound. In addition, the ear pieces pivot, so there is some weight there, but the balance is good and I wore them for three hours with no discomfort at all. In addition, I did not have any problems keeping them in place, an element that is sometimes a problem for me because I have very thin, very short hair, and many full fledged sets of headphones have had a tendency to slip off the back of my head. These did not do that.

That is the comfort part. The truly awesome part is the sound. The suggested retail price for these headphones is only US$69, yet as I listened to some of my favorite Willie Nelson recordings I could hear every acoustic guitar lick as he played, not just as a solo, but with his band. It was such a pleasant experience. And I was listening to this music on my iPhone. Not exactly the epitome of great music sound to start with.
This set comes with a regular headphone cable and an additional extension cable because it also works with a DVD, TV, and Hi-Fi studio. There is a 3.5mm-RCA converter and 6.3mm gold plate adaptor for additional options.
The one thing it does not include is an adaptor that lets it work with a first generation iPhone. I had to purchase a special adaptor plug. I found one at a local computer store for less than $10.
The bottom line is that these headphones are my new best friend. I just love the sound and the comfort. As a singer myself I want good sound when I listen to music and I get it from these headphones, along with comfort and a reasonable price. The fact that they also work well for a podcast is just a bonus.
Just The Facts
Pros:
Comfortable headphones, provide exceptional sound at a reasonable price. The surround sound, combined with good quality ear pieces allow the user to hear all elements of the music being presented.
Cons:
Users of first generation iPhones will have to purchase an additional plug to use the headphones with their iPhone.
