iPod nano leather flip case

Prada. Louis Vuitton. Kate Spade. Small Dog Electronics. Small what? Okay, perhaps the aforementioned is an exaggeration, but Small Dog Electronics, that Vermont-based Apple specialist preferred by canines everywhere, has brought to the table one of the best leather cases for your iPod nano with its iPod nano leather flip case.

Small Dog
Small Dog iPod nano leather flip case

The quick run-down looks like this: a two-tone leather case with good stitching, solid construction, no extra click wheel or screen protection but good cut-outs for each, and a basic belt clip.

Small Dog

What makes Small Dog's case appealing is that it doesn't suffer from the shortcomings of other leather iPod nano cases we've encountered, including sub-par stitching (like Pacific Design's case, 3 out of 5) or cumbersome click wheel and screen protection (like DLO's Podfolio, also 3 out of 5). Both the screen and click wheel cutouts are well done and lined up nearly perfectly with our iPod nano. The leather is a little thicker than some cases but by no means bulky. A magnet keeps it all securely shut when flipped closed.

Small Dog

Small Dog's belt clip implementation is the first that we've come across of its type. A metal nut is securely stitched into the back of the case (don't worry, a piece of leather lies between it and the back of the iPod nano) and users who wish to take advantage of the belt clip screw the included metal tab into it. A basic plastic belt clip completes the solution. It isn't the most convenient design since it requires the use of a screwdriver, but for those not interested in a belt clip it's a better option than those leather cases that stitch one on permanently.

Small Dog

The Bottom Line

At $20, Small Dog's leather nano flip case is not only one of the nicest we've come across, it's also one of the least expensive. Even if you're a cat lover, should a leather case suit your style don't pass this one up. Available in red, black, and brown.

Just The Facts

Pros:nice leather, well constructed, perfectly priced

Cons:belt clip could be better
