In-Depth Review
RichardSolo iPhone/iPod Dual Charging Station
Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 at 11:04 AM - by Bob LeVitus
This is going to be a very short review. The RichardSolo iPhone/iPod Dual Charging Station is exactly what its name implies -- it's a charging dock for two Apple devices with dock connectors (i.e. iPods and iPhones).
That's all it does. It doesn't have USB and doesn't let you sync your device with iTunes. All it does is charge two devices at once. Actually, it does one other thing, at least in my opinion, and that thing is.... you can choose to have it light up with a cool blue glow when a device is inserted if you like (there's a switch on the right side of the unit).
Here are a couple of pictures of it -- the first is a glamor shot provided by RichardSolo; the second is more of a snapshot, provided by yours truly.

iPhone/iPod Dual Charging Station charges one or two iPods or iPhones and offers the option of glowing when a device is in either one of its cradles. There's not much more to say.
The package includes the dual dock, six iPod/iPhone cradles (iPhone 3G, iPhone 1G, iPod touch, iPod Classic, iPod nano, iPod 5G), and the AC adapter/power cord.
Like all of the RichardSolo iPhone and iPod products, the iPhone/iPod Dual Charging Station is Apple-certified as both "Works with iPhone" and "Made for iPod." It's compatible with all models of iPhone and iPod except the iPod shuffle and comes with a 30-day return privilege.
By the way -- if you're wondering about this Richard character (as in RichardSolo), it's Richard Thalheimer, the founder of The Sharper Image. Though RichardSolo.com is not connected with The Sharper Image in any way, this venture (like the Sharper Image) offers lots of cool stuff including several excellent iPhone batteries.
The Bottom Line
The iPhone/iPod Dual Charging Station from RichardSolo isn't for everyone. Unless you have at least two Apple devices that need to be charged simultaneously it's not for you. That said, it works exactly as promised and everyone who sees mine thinks it's pretty.
(For what it's worth, my family liked mine so much they insisted I buy them one. So we now have two of 'em -- one in my office and another in the den.)
Just The Facts
Pros:
Does what it's supposed to do, looks good.
Cons:
Doesn't sync, a bit pricey for a one-trick pony.
