Trademark Issues Force iPodStyles to Become iStyles

ObjectsFusion on Wednesday announced that it has been forced to change the name of its iPodStyles Web site to iStyles "because of legal issues with Apple," according to a statement released by the company.

The company added: "This name change follows trademark issues with the use of the word 'iPod' in 'iPodStyles.' Apple owns the trademark for 'iPod' in practically all classes and the use of 'iPod' for trading purposes elsewhere is prohibited."

ObjectsFusion said it was "very disappointed" to have to give up the name, "but we fully respect Apple's decision." The company promises to launch a new wave of iPod accessories soon.

As The Mac Observer posted this article, the ipodstyles.com URL continued to work, redirecting traffic to istyles.com, so ObjectsFusion has apparently not been required to relinquish that domain name.

AppleInsider reported last week that Web site iPod Essentials was forced by Apple to change its name; that company is now known as MP3 Essentials. Macworld UK ran an article the same day that confirmed that Apple has taken similar action against other companies in an effort to reinforce its trademark.

I am not being a wise guy, but what about iPodObserver? Do the legal issues only apply to sales sites, are news sites exempt?

Inquiring minds want to know
