Olive's Wireless Musica Server Holds 40,000 Tunes

Olive on Wednesday unveiled Musica, a wireless media server that can store up to 40,000 songs on its 160GB hard drive. The US$1,099 device can also burn CDs, record music from such analog sources as turntables or tape decks, link to music stored on a networked computer, tune in to Internet radio and download music to an iPod.

Musica also features a four-port Ethernet switch, 802.11g wireless networking (what Apple calls "AirPort Extreme"), a pair of USB 2.0 ports, gold-plated RCA inputs and outputs, a seven-line LCD screen and a Web-based interface for editing metadata tags. The device supports playback in the MP3, AIFF, WAV, WMA, PCM, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and unprotected AAC file formats. It can record in the MP3, AIFF, WAV and FLAC formats.

Olive also sells Sonata, a wireless music receiver that can be used to access the Musica's library from another room. The company expects to make Musica available at the beginning of next month.
