Research Firm Chooses Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone Over Motorola iTunes Phone
Monday, October 31st, 2005 at 2:50 PM - by Staff
Research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics on Monday issued a report titled: "Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone Beats Motorola ROKR to Best-in-Class Cellular Music Device Title." Motorola's iTunes-enabled phone was presented as an iPod-like device during its introduction in September, but it was overshadowed by the iPod nano and subsequently panned by many reviewers and users.
However, Chris Ambrosio, director of wireless device research at Strategy Analytics, said in a statement: "Current iTunes users in particular indicated strong usability preference for the ROKR, indicating that the iTunes interface is generating loyalty/preference dynamics similar to branded operating systems."
The Motorola ROKR was undone in the music quality category, where it rated lower than not only the Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman but also the Samsung A970. According to Kevin Nolan, the firm's director of its advanced wireless laboratory, this was "a notable underperformance for Motorola given the branded and highly optimized iPod interface designed for music delivery."
