Usenet Aggregator Guba to Add Video iPod Support
Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 at 4:10 PM - by
Guba, a Web site that aggregates videos, photos and other files posted to Usenet, will add support for the video-enabled iPod in November, a company spokesperson told The iPod Observer on Thursday. He said that sometime between the middle and the end of the month, Guba will make video content available in the H.264 QuickTime format required by the iPod.
Guba is already in the process of transcoding content into the format and testing it to make sure it works with the new iPod. A MarketWatch article posted on Thursday was titled "iPod Girds For Porn," implying that adult material will be the biggest attraction for Guba users who want to place downloaded files on their iPods.
"We can kid ourselves, but in the end it's probably porn that people want," MarketWatch columnist Frank Barnako said that Guba CEO Thomas McInerney told Wired News.
Interest in Guba, driven by media coverage the past few days, led the site to stop signing up users for new subscriptions on Thursday. A notice said that it is "doing everything in our power to solve these issues as quickly as possible."
