Portable Media Expo - mobiBLU Shows World's Smallest MP3 Player

ONTARIO, CA -- mobiBLU was showing what it bills as the world's smallest MP3 player at this week's Portable Media Expo, the DAH-1500i. Bob Fullerton, Director of Product Marketing, gave us a quick demonstration of the device.

mobiBLU DAH-1500i

The DAH-1500i is a small, measuring only 24 mm (0.9 inches) on each side, but it sports a number of features. In addition to being an MP3 and WMA player, the 1500i has an FM radio tuner, and also provides a voice recording service. The OLED display is sharp and bright.

The device can be connected via a USB 2.0 connection, and can also act as a flash drive. While functionality on the Windows side is a given with WMA support, Mac support is less obvious, though we were assured that one could copy and play back MP3 files that are copied to the device, since it also acts as a flash drive.

The DAH-1500i is available with 1GB and 512 MB capacities, and is currently available through the company's exclusive launch partner, Wal-Mart.

So a 1 inch cube... it may be small, but not going to be easy to carry in a pocket.

"Is that an MP3 player in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?"

Oh, hardly. Apple may not have the smallest

'fully functional' MP3 player around, but I can imagine that controlling this thing, especially with my large hands, would be more hassle than it is worth. It may sell well to asian kids, though. I wonder if the itty-bitty screen scratches easily (or causes intense eye-strain).

an FM tuner? um woo. Why does everything have to be an 'iPod killer'?

Without any references to an iPod, it's a cool little thing. Really does strike you how something you'd have thought more in terms of scfi in the 80s comes to be.
