Samsung/Apple Memory Deal Under Investigation
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005 at 9:45 AM - by Staff
Samsung is under investigation by South Korean officials over accusations that it offered unfairly low NAND Flash memory prices to Apple, according to Reuters. The probe has been going on for some time now, and there were rumblings of an investigation in early October.
The investigation, which is looking in to earlier RAM chip deals between Samsung and Apple, is focusing on complaints that Apple was supplied chips for the iPod at prices below what South Korean MP3 player manufacturers were paying.
A South Korean Fair Trade Commission representative commented "We are investigating whether Samsung has been unfairly supplying flash memory chips to Apple at cheaper prices than applied to domestic music player makers."
This investigation is not related to the recent deal Apple struck with Samsung, Hynix, and several other memory chip manufacturers.
