iPO at Macworld - DLO's HomeDock Deluxe Enables iPod Navigation Via TV

SAN FRANCISCO -- Digital Lifestyle Outfitters (DLO) on Tuesday introduced the HomeDock Deluxe, which enables users to navigate their iPods through their TV screens and play music, videos and slideshows. It connects via an RCA or S-Video port and comes with a built-in screensaver that protects the TV from burn-in.

The new version of the HomeDock, which will ship in March with a US$149.99 price tag, includes a 20-button remote control, an AC power supply, a six-foot AV cable, a USB port and a powered speaker adapter. It charges the iPod while the MP3 player is docked; the USB port can be used for charging and enables syncing the iPod with a computer. HomeDock Deluxe is compatible with all iPods that feature dock connectors.

Just got mine all da way in the Netherlands yesterday but got rather upset at the state of the Remote which was probably scratched during manufacture. I got over-excited when I saw highlights from DLO's site and made a plunge to have it. Happy to have it but with some regret after paying huge shipping+taxes. Its what I got to live with living here. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being top score. I'll give HomeDock Deluxe a 7.5. Most of it owing to the functionality of music menu on the big screen. But 2.5 lost due to the fact that its not everything viewable on TV thus making it not as Delux-ious as it claims. You can read my review about it here. To date, I'm still awating response from DLO for a replacement remote.

Design-wise, it's a nice piece to display on your entertainment center. As in the previous comment, my remote came with scratches straight from the factory. Functionally, I'm really impressed. Being able to control playlists, artists, audiobooks, etc... on a big display gives you a very inexpensive way to get that jukebox you've always wanted. I love it. One thing you may want to considder is the connections available on your reciever. If you're planning on connecting your audio to the reciever and your video directly to your TV, you'll have to get an extender video cable. All three cables are bundled together with only about 4 inches of free cable on either end. It was a mild dissapointment to have to run out to the electronics store right after bringing the Homedock deluxe home. But all in all, the mild frustrations were well worth it.
