iTunes Music Store Sells 12M Videos

Continuing with Apple's string of iTunes announcements, it revealed on Tuesday that it has sold over 12 million videos since October 2005. The iTunes Music Store now has over 50 different network programs available from Disney, ABC, the Sci Fi Channel, MTV, Showtime, and more.

The iTMS is available for Mac and Windows personal computers and works exclusively with Apple's line of iPod digital media devices. iTMS now operates in 21 countries. In the U.S., the service features more than two million songs, over 3,000 videos and shows, and more than 11,000 audiobooks.

The video store was launched on October 12th.

The 1 million video mark was reached/announced October 31st, not October 21st...

12m is especially amazing when you think of how limited a selection they have. I can't wait until they have the complete library from a few networks. All the back episodes from Seinfeld, Cheers, Simpsons, everything Cartoon network and Nickelodeon has run in the last decade, the MGM collection of films, etc. etc. 12m could be a daily sales total in a couple of years.

The trajectory for video has zoomed pass that for music.

It took Apple 133 days to reach 10 million in music sales back in 2003.

It's only taken Apple 117 days to reach 12 million in video sales.

SJ said it was a test when video was introduced. I think it's fair to say that the video stuff is a success.

Well wasn't that 10M songs in 2003 hit before iTunes for Windows was even launched? At least it looks that way from the timeline above.

If so, I think that makes it a more significant achievement than the video sales rate considering the user base today is like a zillion times bigger. But either way, go Apple!
