Bogus Apple Event Invite Hits the 'Net

Someone in Germany sent out a bogus Apple event invitation early Wednesday morning, spamming the major Macintosh and iPod news sites with it. The return address was an Apple email address, but according to the header, it was sent from a domain owned by someone in Hamburg.

Whoever it was, the sender was likely trying to play off recent speculation that Apple would release a crimson-hued iPod as part of Bono's Project Red, which is a charity that helps fight HIV. American Express has released a red-colored credit card in conjunction with it.

The invitation shows a 2005 copyright at the bottom, another tip-off that it is fake.

iPod Observer is investigating the domain in question. A message left with Apple's PR staff was unreturned as this article was posted.

Ah, $#!%...

I checked the mail 1000 times and didn't notice that "2005 copyright".

But i think our graphic was nicely done

The server had safe-mode on, so i could not fake the headers completely...
