Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 at 4:00 PM - by
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has added a new category for programming created specifically for viewing on "non-traditional platforms," such as iPods, PDAs, computers, and cell phones. The new award will be part of the 33rd Annual Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards being held April 22 in New York City.
The nominees are: 24: Conspiracy, a drama inspired by the 24 TV series and created for Verizon's cellular network; It's Jerrytime!, an animated blog created by Jerry Zucker (Airplane!); Live 8 on AOL, which enabled AOL visitors to move between the six live feeds of the Live 8 concerts happening around the globe on July 2, 2005; mtvU Stand In, short videos showing various celebrities substitute teaching a class; Sophie Chase, an online-only series about a female detective; and Stranger Adventures, "an online, interactive, brain-teasing adventure that features live-action video footage intertwined with text e-mails that continue to tell the hero's story."
All of the nominees are available for viewing in RealPlayer streaming or QuickTime/iPod format on the Emmys Web site. The NATAS said that the new Emmy Award for non-traditional platforms will also be presented at the 27th annual Sports Emmy Awards on May 1 and then later this year at the News & Documentary, Business & Financial Reporting, and Community and Public Service Emmy Awards.
