SpeckTone Retro iPod Speakers

Speck Products announced the SpeckTone Retro speaker system for the iPod on Tuesday. The speaker system includes two 3-inch drivers, a 4-inch subwoofer, 1/8-inch AUX jack, and iPod dock in a 1950's style case. It is available in green/brown, black/black, or white/silver, and includes matching skins for the video cable iPod and iPod nano. The SpeckTone Retro is priced at US$149.95, and is available for pre-order now. It will ship on June 12.

<SIGH> Yet another candidate for the ugliest iPod accessory. This isn't "Retro"--it would have been considered ugly during any era/decade/time. The only thing "Retro" about it is the square corners and the plastic/Bakelite look. The p*ke/cr*p -- er, green/brown -- scheme would clash with just about any other color.It makes one wonder just what the designer(s) was/were on when he/they came up with this design. More important, though, why did the company executives (if there are any) think that this was a good idea?
