Amazon Preps Movie Download Service

Amazon.com's video store, which will include movie downloads, is expected to open in before the end of August. According to MarketWatch, Amazon.com plans to offer movies on VHS and DVD along with ad-free digital versions of TV shows and feature-length movies. Users can choose from a monthly subscription service or an a la carte service.
Earlier in July, both Apple and Amazon.com were reported to be negotiating with Hollywood studios to offer movie downloads through their online stores. So far, Apple isn't talking about the status of its negotiations.
Thanks to Apple's market dominance with the iTunes Music Store (iTMS), striking a deal could prove beneficial to the movie studios and potentially damaging to Amazon.com, even if movies come to the iTMS later. The ease of use and tight integration that the iTMS offers with the iPod has already helped Apple become the most popular company for music and TV show downloads.
