Samsung Gaining on iPod in Taiwan
Monday, August 28th, 2006 at 10:45 AM - by
Apple's iPod is the market leader in Taiwan, but unlike other parts of the world, that's with only eight percent of the region's MP3 player sales, instead of over 70 percent. According to DigiTimes, that slim market lead is now being threatened by Samsung. A market survey by GfK Marketing Services shows the rival MP3 player company has managed to climb to 7.8 percent in the Taiwan market.
Samsung plans to release several new media players with video capabilities before the end of the year, and it released its YP-Z5F in July, which helped boost the company's total sales for the year so far to nearly 55,000 units.
Samsung's aggressive product releases are certainly helping the company's Taiwan sales, but they may not be enough to push the company into the number one spot. Apple is likely to introduce revamped iPods before the end of the year, which will go a long way in helping the company maintain its top position.
