Apple Granted New iPod-, Computer-Related Patents

Apple this week saw six new patents published through the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: one concerning the handling of rewriteable media, such as CD-RWs; one for an iPod holder that could sit inside a car's cup holder; one for managing file extensions; one for "constant-weight encoding and decoding;" and two for iPod shuffle cases and holders.

Neo at MacNN has posted a rundown of the various patents, including images of the iPod-related ones. It's unclear exactly how Apple wants to implement the other ones, if it has plans to use them at all. Companies sometimes patent concepts simply to protect them.
