If Pacific Design's minimalist NanoGo Wallet (4 stars) fell short on your storage needs for a dual-purpose iPod case and wallet, the company recently started selling the larger Nano Uptown Clutch.

Measuring just over six-and-a-half inches in length, the tri-fold Uptown Clutch has plenty of room for dollar bills, several credit cards, your ID, iPod nano, and even a small pocket for storing your earbuds.

Craftsmanship is again first-rate—on par with other recent Pacific Design products—with nice leather and faux leather material and perfect stitching.

Fold back the first, smaller fold of the Uptown Clutch, which is held closed by a small magnetic clasp, and you have full access to your iPod nano's display and controls. The integration is very clean and the Uptown Clutch hangs on to your iPod with a good enough grip to prevent it from slipping out, even when you are packing little else. Fully loaded, the Uptown Clutch is a very reasonable one-inch deep, perfect for stashing away in a purse when you don't want to be holding onto the Clutch at all times, with or without the decidedly cheesy wrist strap.

The Bottom Line

While we prefer not to confine our iPod to a case that can't be easily tucked into a pocket or clipped to our bag or clothes, for those who find the iPod case-wallet concept appealing, the iPod Nano Uptown Clutch is a nice example that serves its purpose well.

iPod nano (2G) compatible? Mostly—the Uptown Clutch will still hold your new iPod nano just fine, but fitting the earphone plug in requires moving a small piece of material out of the way.
