iTunes 7.0.2 Supports 2G iPod shuffle, Fixes Performance Issues

Apple on Tuesday issued iTunes 7.0.2, which adds support for the second-generation iPod shuffle that will be available in stores on Friday. In addition, it "addresses a variety of stability and performance issues found in iTunes 7 and 7.0.1," according to the documentation.

It can be downloaded from the company's Web site or through Mac OS X's Software Update pane. In Windows, users can launch the application to update it.

Does it "fix" DVD John and his, how do I say this without editorializing, "meddling"?

That's a good question, Tiger. We're looking into it.

I don't know about meddling, but I installed the update and have had no problems thus far.

Whatever it is, it updates your entire iTunes library when you launch it the first time. I assume that means no going back if there end up being unexpected snafus in the updated iTunes. Just so you know.

Which means: Backup, backup, backup. (And keep the previous iTunes version around as well.) Thanks for the tip!

I am having a problem updating the new software, it tells me I have to have Quick Time installed which I do. Why can't I still download music without the new upgraded version?

You should be able to change the music store from the main page. Just look for a flag symbol in a little aqua bubble on the music store main page, and switch it to the United States again. (I switch between national music stores on occasion just to see what's available elsewhere)

Assuming you're in the U.S, if you try to go into your user account, it will tell you that you cannot access your account from the foreign store and will proceed to switch you to the U.S. store.

FYI, when I updated, it set up me with the German store. I wonder how many David Hasselhoff albums are available on it...

French franks - really? I would swear that the Euro is the only legal tender in France!
