PodJournals Social Networking Podcast Service Launched

PodJournals announced Wednesday a beta release of its signature service, a social networking service centered around podcasting. The beta version of PodJournals is free to try, and the company also released a Mac OS X version of its client software.

PodJournals is aiming its service at people interested in developing or following podcasts for and from friends. It is designed to work with Apple's forthcoming iTV, as well as with iPods or any computer-based podcast viewing software.

"Podcasting has traditionally been a static, top-down medium, but we see that it will be a dynamic social experience," PodJournals President Steven Schuldt said in a statement. "We let you do more than just easily create and subscribe to podcasts, we let you create dynamic public and private 'friendcasts' which give you the audio and video you're most interested in via a single podcast."

Mr. Schuldt also said that he sees iTV as being a paradigm-shifting device that will bring podcasts into the living rooms.

The beta release allows users to create up to 10 podcasts, and the Mac OS X client requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Podcasting. As opposed to Zunecasting.

Still has a good ring to it.
