More Americans Have Downloaded Podcasts, But Few Do So Every Day

While 12% of Internet users have downloaded a podcast, up from 7% earlier in the year, only 1% do so daily, which is unchanged from the previous number, according to The Pew Internet and American Life Project. Pew also found that men and users who have been on the Internet for a long time are more likely to download podcasts.

Pew senior research specialist Mary Madden told the Associated Press: "While podcast downloading is still an emerging activity primarily enjoyed by early adopters, the range of content now available speaks to both mainstream and niche audiences. We are at a crossroads of a major transition in the way media content is delivered and consumed."

Pew surveyed 972 adult American Internet users during the month of August and said that it had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 points. It previously conducted the same survey from February to April this year.

It should be noted that few podcasts are updated daily. Many are updated weekly, others are done whenever-I-get-around-to-it. Most of the daily podcasts I've found have been based on radio shows, though some of them are not free (e.g., Rush Limbaugh, Air America).
