Review - Aluminum N2

If protecting your new iPod nano is of utmost importance to you, the Aluminum N2 case from PodsPlus is an excellent option to consider. Like the 5G iPod case the company introduced earlier this year (4 stars, $29.99), the Aluminum N2 is the first and only metal case for the iPod nano that offers both screen and clickwheel protection.

The neoprene-lined Aluminum N2 tightly hugs the iPod nano, adding a scant 3mm to the nano's dimensions. The case opens like a book, making it a cinch to insert or remove your nano, and offers full access to the hold switch, docking port, and earphone connector when closed.

The fit of the Aluminum N2 is perfect, the integrated hard plastic screen protector is very clear, and the silicone membrane covering the clickwheel reduces its sensitivity only marginally.

In testing, we managed to get the Aluminum N2 to open once when dropped on a hard surface, but no damage was sustained to the nano as the case grips it firmly enough to keep it secure and adequately protected. Nonetheless, it should be noted that the Aluminum N2 took more than its fair share of bumps and drops without incident.

Like other PodsPlus cases, practically every part of the Aluminum N2's $29.99 price goes into the case. No belt clip or armband is included or even available, and extras are limited to an extremely cheap lanyard that most buyers will likely toss aside.

The Bottom Line

PodsPlus has done another commendable job with the Aluminum N2 case; if you are in the market for a case that goes above and beyond to keep your iPod nano looking fresh and new, this is it.
