Nike Amp+ for iPod On the Way

It looks like Nike is getting ready to release a new iPod add-on called Nike Amp+. This wristband gadget lets you control your iPod wirelessly, and also lets you monitor your Nike + iPod without requiring you to look at your iPod nano.

Nike Amp+

The product description in Men'sHealth says the Nike Amp+ uses Bluetooth to communicate with your iPod, but doesn't say if it comes with a Bluetooth adapter. If not, then either the product description is wrong, or Apple may have a Bluetooth-enabled iPod in development.

Nike Amp+ isn't an official product yet since it hasn't actually been released. Instead, it showed up in the Men'sHealth 2007 Tech Guide in the Media Players category. No word on when we can expect this cool iPod add-on to hit store shelves, but is should cost US$80.

Thanks to TUAW for the heads up.

I thought the Nike+ iPod fab and the connector (that connects to the bottom of the nano) communicated to each other using bluetooth. That would mean that with the connector attached it gives the iPod bluetooth ability. Sometimes the simplest answer makes the most sense.

Looks like they're using "Bluetooth" as a generic term for local wireless. I'll probably have to get this thing to try it out as soon as it comes out. But it swaps one problem for another (sweaty hands on iPod dial for watch tan line). I'd rather see an iPod Mini sized clip that just has the volume, song, play, pause controls and some kind of interactive voice menu system on the iPod. Such a system would be great for the car too!
