Britain Approves iPod Radio Transmitters

Britain has finally legalized the use of FM radio transmitters with iPods, and the amendment to the 1949 Wireless Telegraphy Act goes into effect on December 8, according to Townhall.com. Prior to the change in the U.K. law, owners of products like the iTrip and TuneFM were required to have a radio license, and pay royalties for the songs transmitted through the devices.

FM radio transmitters are popular add-on accessories for the iPod since they allow users to play music on their car stereos without extra wires or hardware modifications.

Short range FM transmitters have been legal in the United States for some time. The U.K., Switzerland and Germany all allow them now, but most other European countries still ban the devices.

This can't come soon enough. A friend of mine bought an iTrip while he was visiting in the states, and when using it back in the old country, his home was raided by a British SWAT team (which curiously had no guns). He was beaten up, strip searched, x-rayed, and repeatedly violated. All because of having an iTrip without a broadcasting license. It's too late for him, but great for the rest of you!

Perhaps you're not familiar with Bosco's warped sense of humor. He sometimes is funny, but it has become difficult to tell when he's really serious.
