The iPhone Mom Test and One More Thing

One consideration for the iPhone's mass appeal is whether it can pass the Mom test. In addition, there might still be a surprise coming along with the iPhone on June 29th, according to ITWire.

The mastery of the iPhone will come at different levels by different users. Apple certainly makes it look as if the iPhone will be incredibly easy to use. Even so, the real acid test for mass appeal, will be the Mom test. (Or "Mum" test for those outside North America.) "I’d love to get her an iPhone, load it up with music, videos and photos, show her how to use it and to see just how quickly she picks it up," Alex Zaharov-Reutt wrote.

Also, the idea that Apple and Steve Jobs may have Just One More Thing up their sleeve on opening day can't be discounted. The author mused, "If it transpired that, at 6:00 PM when the iPhone officially goes on sale, there is one more massive feature that Steve Jobs kept 'til the very end, it would certainly be the ultimate 'one more thing'."

It would indeed. That could propel the iPhone opening day into legendary status.

I bet it's a camera and someone will call it "insanely great" that cell phones can now take pictures and upload them to the internet.

But it's 'mom' in the Black Country (industrial region west of Birmingham, UK).
