Apple Posts iPhone Keyboard Video

As the June 29 iPhone launch day draws closer, Apple has been releasing more information about the combination iPod and smartphone in the form of online videos. The latest shows how the iPhone on-screen keyboard works, and how to use it effectively.

The iPhone's on-screen keyboard in action.

The video offers an impressive demonstration of the iPhone keyboard in action, along with the predictive typing features, and shows that the device can look to your Address Book entries to auto-complete names. Just like other iPhone videos from Apple, this one stresses that it takes about a week to get comfortable with the on-screen keyboard, and that it is important to learn to trust the iPhone's predictive typing feature.

The iPhone keyboard video is available on the Apple Web site in small, medium, and large QuickTime streaming formats, and as a 67MB download.

Here's the correct link, until the editors fix the one in the article:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/usingiphone/keyboard.html

Watch this and note the end sequence, where the person is typing with two thumbs.

Ok, I'm a bit more interested in this now, still not gonna be a purchase in the next couple of months but I really like the idea of a totally customized keyboard for every app.

No offense to the guy in the video, but maybe Apple should have just given Stephen Colbert an iPhone and some money to do this video for them, would have been more entertaining.

Finally, I want to be able to type with two thumbs like that in widescreen mode, has it been said if this is supported? I have massive hands and that would likely be the more comfortable position for them if I was gonna type out a whole email.

It's not supposed to be "entertaining," but informative.

Heh I guess you have to be a Colbert fan to find that funny? He was bitching about not getting an advance iPhone a few weeks ago, and I thought of it because the guy vaguely resembles Colbert's dorky older brother.
