Details Emerge on Samsung Dual Format Player
Thursday, July 5th, 2007 at 4:55 PM - by
Additional details have emerged on Samsung's dual format, Blu-ray/HD DVD player, according to High-Def Digest on Thursday.
The Samsung BDP-UP5000 "hybrid" player that will play both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats was reported to be available in October to November 2007. The announcement was made at the IFA trade show in Germany. Demos are expected by Samsung in August.
The price has not yet been announced, but High-Def Digest expects the price to be lower than the current LG hybrid player's price of US$1199.99. GizmoWatch reported on Thursday an expected price of €400.00.
Samsung announced that its player, unlike the LG player, will support the interactive features of both formats: BD-Java for Blu-ray and HDi for HD DVD, via an Ethernet connection.
The new generation of HD disc players also use an Ethernet connection to update the firmware and the encryption/security system.
