Tricks for Optimizing iPhone Battery Life
Tuesday, July 10th, 2007 at 3:45 PM - by
The iPhone Atlas posted many important tips and techniques for optimizing the iPhone battery life on Monday. Notably, Airplane Mode is useful even when not flying.
Some of the techniques mentioned in more detail include:
Extending battery life
- Use shallow charges.
- Avoid temperature extremes.
- Use the phone regularly.
Extending time between charges
- Use Airplane Mode when listening to music or watching a movie and don't want to be disturbed.
- Use auto-brightness.
- Turn off keyboard clicks.
- Turn off the sound equalizer.
Regarding the recharge cycles, the article noted: "The battery will lose capacity after 300-400 charge cycles, not fail completely. So technically you don’t need to send the unit in if you can deal with diminished battery life. Apple says the battery will retain up to 80% of its original capacity after the 300-400 charge cycles and adds "You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.""
