Diamenty is a free "match three jewels in a row" game for iPhone. It's addictive, fun, and best of all, it's free.

If you've ever played Bejeweled (Mac & PC) or JewelToy (Mac OS X), you know exactly how Diamenty works. For those unfamiliar with either of those two (highly recommended) games, the goal is to arrange three or more matching gems in a line either horizontally or vertically. To arrange the gems, you tap one, then tap any adjacent gem to swap their places and form a line of three or more matching gems. When you make a line of three or more gems, the gems disappear and all the gems above them slide downward to fill the holes. New gems fall onto the board from the top to replace the ones that have disappeared. The more lines of three or more gems you make, the higher your score. The game ends when no more lines of three or more matching gems can be created.

Here's how it works. . . You tap a gem to select it then tap any adjacent jewel that will create one or more lines of three matching gems as shown here:

The gems swap places. The lines of three or more matching gems (2 lines in the picture below) disappear and the gems above them drop down to fill the empty space.

And this is the result:

Repeat until no more lines of three matching gems can be created.

TIP: There's nothing about Diamenty to prevent you from playing it from your Mac (or PC). Just surf to the aforementioned Web page with your favorite desktop browser and have fun.

I've always enjoyed this kind of game and I enjoy Diamenty a lot. It's great for filling a few minutes waiting at a drive-through, doctor's office, or whatever. It's pretty addictive and I find myself playing "a quick game" far too often.

It's really well-done and plays well on both iPhone and computer but I do have a couple of minor gripes. For one thing, the gems are rather small on the iPhone screen and my fingers are rather chubby, so I find myself missing the gem I meant to tap more often than I'd like. And unlike some of the other renditions of the match-three-gems games, this one doesn't have a timer. That's a mixed blessing. It takes the pressure off and lets you switch to another task on your phone without ending your game. But the pressure and the timer are part of what makes other versions so addicting. So I wish there were an option for timed play. Finally, playing Diamenty seems to run down my iPhone battery somewhat faster than many other activities. That's probably not Diamenty's fault but I thought you should know.

Diamenty is from but the author asks for donations if you like the game and wish to show your support. If you donate you receive access to a special version of the game that doesn't ask if you'd like to make a donation before every game.

One last thing: You may remember that one of my complaints in my iPhone review was that there were no games yet. I'm happy to report that is no longer the case. With games like Diamenty and Scenario Poker for iPhone (which I'll review later this week) arriving on the scene, I have every expectation there will be lots of great time-wasters for our iPhones available real soon.

If you like other "match three gem" games you'll like Diamenty. It's fun, addictive, and best of all, it's free.
