Thursday, August 16th, 2007 at 9:30 AM - by
Reports began surfacing on Wednesday that the France Telecom subsidiary Orange may have landed the deal to distribute the iPhone in France. The report has not yet been confirmed by Orange, according to Forbes.
According to the reports, Orange has already ordered 50,000 handsets from Apple in preparation for the French product launch which could come as early as September.
Orange, however, isn't offering any additional information. Australian IT reported that spokesperson for the company commented "Orange has no comment to make on the rumours about the iPhone."
In the United States, Apple has an exclusive deal with AT&T for iPhone service.
Apple launched the iPhone at the end of June in the U.S. with plans to release the combination iPod and smart phone in Europe before the end of 2007.
